Pet owners warned of dental care cover gaps 21 June 2005 Sainsbury’s Bank is urging pet owners to check that the dental cover provided by their pet insurance policy covers for both illness and accident related dental problems to avoid being left with expensive vet bills. At least one million of the nation’s cats and dogs could be suffering from bad teeth and gums. This is based on research from the bank which reveals that 8% of dog and cat owners admit that their animals suffer from this condition. However, research amongst vets reveals dental problems may be far more widespread, with those questioned saying 63 per cent of the dogs and cats they treat need their teeth cleaned, and 29 per cent need more extensive treatment.
